Confidence returning ahead of Rio for sprint star Hartley
Having had a poor start to the international ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup season in Germany, South African sprint queen Bridgitte Hartley found her radar as she paddled to a respectable sixth place in the K1 Women’s 500m A-final at the second Canoe Sprint World Cup in Račice, Czech Republic over the weekend. McGregor scoops hat trick as South Africans dominate Molokai Challenge
Hank McGregor won his third title in the Maui Jim Molokai Challenge on Sunday, leading home fellow South African paddlers Sean Rice and Jasper Mocké in the gruelling 53km crossing between the islands of Molokai and Oahu raced in brutal flat conditions. Read the full story here.

Berg bosses tightens safety rules
With the real prospect of another tough, low Berg River Canoe Marathon on the cards for the four day classic from Paarl to Velddrif from 13 to 16 July, race officials have tightened rules to safeguard the safety of every paddler in the field. Read the full story here.

Beavitt gets eye back on Berg double
After tasting Berg River Canoe Marathon success for the first time last year, Bianca Beavitt will return to the gruelling four day event in 2016 looking to replicate her display in 2015 when the event takes place from Paarl to Velddrif from 13-16 July. Read the full story here.

Berg River Canoe Marathon
WC Canoe Union are instituting a set of qualifying criteria for the Berg River Marathon in the same manner as many major ultra-marathon events. To find out about the new qualifying structure go here and to enter the 2016 edition of the race head here.

SA Marathon Championships
The South African Marathon Championships take place in the Western Cape this year over the weekend of 11-12 June. It is set to be another exciting national championship so be sure to check with your union as to how to qualify.

World Marathon Championships
As mentioned by the SG above remember that you have to have the nomination form submitted by 6 JUNE however you will still need to print it off and sign it when you get to the primary trial later in the year! Get the form HERE and make sure you are not disappointed by not submitting it on time!

KwaZulu-Natal Canoe Union
The oldest Surfski race in the world comes back around as Durban readies itself for the Illovo Pirates Umhlanga Pirates. The race starts at Battery Beach on Saturday, 4 June. The race starts at 7am with registration on the day! There is both a long course (25km) and short course (12.5km) option for paddlers with the traditional soup and rolls on offer at the finish!

Gauteng Canoe Union
The VLC Long and Short Race is coming up this weekend (5 June). The Long course is a challenging 46km from Heidelberg Bridge to the Waterfront at Three Rivers. The Short course is 22.9km from Meyerton Sports Grounds to the Waterfront. Chat to the Race Organisers Tim Baker 082 494 5400, Richard Carter 082 682 8046 for more info.

Western Cape Canoe Union
The Gouda to Bridgetown was scheduled for this Saturday, 4 June and the race is on so if you are looking for some more info then you can head to the WCCU Facebook page here to find out more about the race.

Eastern Cape Canoe Union
The Pinewood Homes, Sculptures Chalumna Challenge is the next race on the calendar. The event takes place on 14 May and there is both a Guppy’s as well as a main race. If you want to find out more about the event then get hold of Shane Roach (082 453 7419) at shane@mweb.co.za

The Harbour2Heads Lagoon Challenge
The Harbour to Heads race is coming up in Knysna during the Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival. Registration happens on Saturday 2 July from 12-4pm with the racing happening on Sunday 3 July at 9am. You can enter online here. Head to their Facebook page here for more information!

Pete Marlin Surfski Race
The Pete Marlin Surfski Race is only coming up in November but it will be the South African Surfski Championships. The race will be happening over the weekend of 5&6 November at Nahoon Beach in East London.
