Dear Paddler,
Well!!!! We have all been praying for rain.
Perhaps we should have included some small print regarding the timing and location of the answers to our prayers.
It reminds me of the funding model we face. There is either a drought or a storm with very little notification of when either will strike, and if you don’t use it quickly, it will be washed out to sea.
Talking of getting washed out to sea. The temporary bridge that was set up to get the cyclists over the river at Scottburgh for the sani2c is now sitting at backline hampering the efforts of the surfers.
Onto matters most current.
The marathon season has kicked off with the hard core Gautengers having held their championships up in the frozen wasteland.
The weather did not play along, and the poor sods had a miserable time. Perhaps it is not in vain, as it may be perfect preparation for the SA champs in Cape Town.
From the results it appears that many of the masters class medals may be heading back over the Vaal River come next month.
KZN holds their marathon champs next weekend, with the Western Cape following the weekend after.
Race 5 of the Bay Union surf ski series had to be cancelled over the weekend due to the inclement weather that worsened over the weekend.
Surprisingly it will be race 6 this weekend.

Berg River Canoe Marathon
WC Canoe Union are instituting a set of qualifying criteria for the Berg River Marathon in the same manner as many major ultra-marathon events. To find out about the new qualifying structure go here and to enter the 2016 edition of the race head here.
SA Marathon Championships
The South African Marathon Championships take place in the Western Cape this year over the weekend of 11-12 June. It is set to be another exciting national championship so be sure to check with your union as to how to qualify.
KwaZulu-Natal Canoe Union
There is a pre-KZN Marathon Championships event happening at Camps Drift on Saturday. Entrance is free so why not head down and get a feel for the course before the provincial championships on 21/22 May. The action kicks off at 9am!
Gauteng Canoe Union
The VLC Part II Sequel Klip race takes place this Saturday on 14 May and adds some interesting additional portion of the Klip as novices improve their ability and experience as it will be starting above Mine Rapid, an additional 5.5 kms to add to fitness mileage as well.
Eastern Cape Canoe Union
The Eastern Cape Marathon Championships will be coming up in May. They will be happening over the weekend of 21-22 May at Settlers Dam just outside Grahamstown. Get hold of info@eccu.co.za for more information

The Harbour2Heads Lagoon Challenge
