Pitești, Romania -South African master paddlers added another three medals to the team haul on the final day of the Masters Cup event that precedes the start of the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships on the Argeș River later this week.
Colin Simpkins partnered British paddler Wai Sze to claim the silver medal in the men’s 60-64 19km age group race.
Then the all-Western Cape crew of Romy Findlay and Lis Hart replicated that effort with a second place in the women’s K2 race.
Mike Monson completed the medal haul with a bronze in the masters 65-69 age group race with Roman Vernkhoff.
On Monday Monson opened the Team South Africa account with a bronze medal in his masters K1 65-69 year age category race.
The Masters Cup concluded on Tuesday with Wednesday serving as a training day for the senior, Under 23 and junior paddlers that have arrived in Pitești ahead of the start of the World Championships proper on Thursday.
