SA K1 River Championships – Swartland Marathon

On a full river and in warm winter sunshine the Western Cape hosted the 2013 SA K1 River Championships on the always hospitable and very well run Swartlands Marathon. Evergreen Graeme Solomon 1st (1st Vet) powered his way to victory with Pierre-Andre Rabie 2nd (Senior)and Ivan Kruger 3rd (1st U23) for the male paddlers. In 4th placed Edgar Boehm was also an age group winner 1st SubVet. Of note in age groups mention must be made of 7th place overall for Grand Master Lee McGregor back on the Berg River after a long break.

In the U18 race the two Michael’s (Pretorius and Farringer) battled it out for the SA title with Pretorius (U18 1st)edging ahead in 22nd overall and Farringer (U18 2nd) 23rd overall. Johan Ubbink (U18 3rd)hot on their rudders in 24th overall.
Michele Eray was imperious in taking the Ladies SA River title finishing in an impressive 19th overall. Filling the Ladies podium was Kirsten Penderis 2nd and Joritha Prins 3rd.
