Knowledge of banned substances, steroids, stimulants and other drugs is essential to any canoeist taking part in competition at any level. Two cans of a popular energy drink, and you'll test positive for banned stimulants! Take some over-the-counter flu medicines and you'll test positive. "I didn't know" will never be accepted as an excuse!
As the various disciplines become more competitive and lucrative, the critical issue of performance enhancing drug-taking is under the spotlight. Not only are these drugs and substances illegal at they give an athlete an unfair advantage, they are essentially dangerous and life-threatening chemicals to take.
